A Peer-Supported Program for Self-Reliance in Achieving Workplace Effectiveness

Reducing Stress, Burnout, Hostility, Presenteeism and Absenteeism

Workplaces today face ever-more stress and disgruntlement, burnout and turnover. EAP and medicalization of these issues is inefficient, potentially stigmatizing, and extremely costly. The Rational Workplace Program uses proven principles of overcoming the most common and debilitating workplace stressors – combined with staff training and peer support models to avoid stigma and give ownership to staff. The Rational Workplace Program gives your organization the tools to achieve autonomous, non-stigmatizing, non-medical support for staff. The Rational Workplace Program costs a small fraction of the costs of burnout, staff demoralization, presenteeism, absenteeism, poisoned work environments and workplace violence. It is based on proven behavioral science principles and keeps your solution within your organization. This is a brief outline of a training offering created by Winogron Psychology Professional Corporation. It can be modified to suit your workplace requirements.

Program Purpose:

  • A brief skills-based training to strengthen employee morale, productivity and satisfaction.
  • To pre-empt personal and interpersonal impediments to workplace effectiveness via brief training and a self-directed ‘guidebook’, with optional expert coaching available.

Program Description:

  • Addresses the prevention and correction of the key obstacles to workplace productivity and satisfaction (listed below).
  • Offers a preventive solution to the losses associated with absenteeism and presenteeism due to stress, anxiety, depression, anger, etc. in a new way – through training.
  • A ‘training’ program offering prevention and early intervention for employees of public and private sector organizations of any size; not a stigmatized ‘healthcare’ service — it is complementary to healthcare services.
  • Includes a self-directed, skills-based bilingual guidebook for staff.
  • A workplace program which applies the most practical, scientifically-proven approach to wellness in the workplace.

 Program Intended Audience:

  • Skilled and semi-skilled workers at all levels of employment.

  Suggested Program Format:

  • Pre-training face-to-face consultation with Organizational representative(s).
  • Small group (max. 20 staff) 90-minute “lunch ‘n learn”’ or conventional presentations as required.
  • Full-day training for volunteer program coordinators (max. 5 staff) in program support.
  • Online self-directed ‘guidebook’.
  • Limited online, telephone, and face-to-face support for trained volunteer coordinators.
  • Optional program of expert private or group coaching available.

 Program Experience:

Each of the top workplace obstacles to productivity and satisfaction will be addressed; learners will be able to search for a solution based upon a particular workplace challenge of immediate relevance.

  Program Credibility:

  • The program is based upon one of the most empirically proven approaches to mental wellness, which is rapidly gaining both international credibility and popularity – Cognitive Behavioral Intervention. The program author, William Winogron Ph.D., C. Psych., is an Associate Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the Albert Ellis Institute in New York, and is Co-Director of the Canadian ‘Center for Rational and Cognitive Therapies’, which is an Albert Ellis Affiliated Training Center. Winogron was mentored by Albert Ellis, who is the grandfather of Cognitive Behavioral Theory.
  • Winogron has authored numerous previous programs, both conventional and online, including internationally-implemented trainings.

Dr. Winogron Biography

Dr. Bill Winogron is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years’ experience in assessing and treating psychological disorders in a variety of clinical settings. His involvement with correctional work began with front-line clinical work in community corrections, and went on to include program creation, training, custom curriculum development, and training of trainers. By theoretical orientation, Bill is a practitioner of cognitive behavioural therapies (CBTs), particularly Rational-Emotive Behaviour Therapy, the original short-term CBT. He holds an Associate Fellowship at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City, where he was trained and supervised by Dr. Albert Ellis (‘the grandfather of CBT’) personally.

In addition to being a seasoned clinician and training facilitator, Bill has authored internationally- successful, evidence-based treatment programs (Anger and Emotions Management Program; CALM – Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage it; CALMER – the CALM Effective Relapse Prevention program; etc.) , and has trained, mentored and supervised students, graduate students and correctional staff for much of his career. He is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (Albert Ellis Institute) and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Yorkville University. Additionally, Winogron has authored and facilitated training programs for organizations in Canada, the US, and the UK, both “classroom” and online, on a range of mental health topics.
